As the school year comes to a close, you may be wondering how to keep your children entertained throughout the summer months. During this time off, it is important that they get time to relax and recharge. But we also know you likely want to avoid the dreaded, “I’m bored!” battlecry and give them some summer fun opportunities.
Summer camp is a great way to keep kiddos active and engaged all summer long. As soon as Legacy school closes its doors for the school year, the campus transitions to Camp Legacy. It is host to ten one-week long day camp sessions. There is Lower Camp for Legacy four and five year olds who have not yet completed Kindergarten. Or, Upper Camp is open to the public for K through 5th graders.
Here’s some of the summer fun that happens at Camp Legacy:
- Outdoor Games: Counselors constantly lead outdoor games like tag, hide and seek, capture the flag, and relay races. The campus also has a mini obstacle course, archery area, and a zipline!
- Water Fun: When it’s hot, water activities are a hit! For the younger campers, we set up sprinklers or get creative with games of tag with a wet sponge. The older campers get time in one of the two pools, plus get the treat of a homemade slip-n-slide during some weeks.
- Arts and Crafts: Almost every day, kids young and old get times for arts and crafts. There is painting, drawing, making friendship bracelets, or even building DIY birdhouses or forts.
- Nature Adventures: The camp sits on 11 acres of land, so many times the counselors will take the kids on a nature hike or go on a scavenger hunt to find different plants or insects to take full advantage of the summer fun available.
- Picnics: Eating and snacking outdoors in our pavillions is common. Kiddos bring their lunches and can purchase treats and drinks from our canteen a few times throughout the day.
- Cooking and Baking: The camp house includes a kitchen where groups can prepare special snacks. Or the counselors can grab a s’more kit and head to the fire pit for some true camping fun.
- Inside Fun: Rain can happen, but that doesn’t need to stop the fun. Indoor activities include movie time, a dance party in the gym, or special challenges that pit teams against teams.
- Science Experiments: During some weeks, the camp hosts projects that the campers can complete as a team under the supervision of their counselor, such as mixing up slime, creating vinegar and baking soda volcanoes, or making homemade playdough.
- Bubbles: Everyone loves bubbles! Whether it is blowing their own or running through the bubble or foam machines, our campers are no exception.
- Gardening: Before the kids leave school in the spring, they plant a vegetable garden on the property. Throughout the summer, camp kids get to help harvest. They particularly love to pick the watermelons!
