Legacy School Students Return for In-School Learning

It’s an exciting week for sure! Legacy School students, Preschool-6th grade, returned to school Monday, August 24th, for in-school learning. Since March, students had not been physically in the classroom when all Omaha schools moved to remote learning due to the pandemic. While much of Omaha started the school year balancing a blend of in-school and remote learning, Legacy School has returned full-time for in-school learning.

One student in Mrs. Babbel’s 3rd-grade class states, “I’m excited to be back at school for in-school learning because I get to see my friends. I also get to learn from my teacher, in-person, which I love!”

Providing a Safe Environment for In-School Learning

Administrators Buffy Baca and Kelly Pedersen have been working together with teachers to provide students with an environment that is safe to return. Health protocols include a health screening of all students at arrival, sanitizing throughout the day, and masks while inside. Also, protocols of hand-washing several times a day, and social distancing between classrooms are in place.

Classes at Legacy School are small, giving students the ability to social distance within the classroom. Also, classrooms utilize flex seating. This kind of seating naturally allows for students to learn in a distanced manner.  Lastly, teachers at Legacy School bring many of their lessons outdoors on the 11 acres of land. Doing so allows students to take frequent mask breaks and learn in a setting that provides constant fresh air.

What Parents are Saying about In-School Learning

Eager for her student, JrK parent Camille Ryan states, “My husband, Andy, and I are excited that our daughter is in class this year with everything going on. In-school learning is a game-changer for our daughter and allows for social interaction and structure needed for her growth!”

Kathy Hagen, a third-grade parent, exclaimed, “Legacy offers such great educational opportunities! Also, the outdoor space allows students to have in-person instruction within recommended guidelines and be safe.” She added, “Our son adores his friends from Legacy. The amenities we have to give him the education he needs gives me peace of mind.”
