Tips For a Successful Return to School

In a few short days, students will be returning from break to start the second half of the school year! With all those days off, it is always tough to break the break. Many of us have gotten out of our normal routine and have slept in, gone to bed late, and have been busy with holiday activities. Check out the following 5 tips for a successful return to school on January 7th!

Breaking the Break: 5 tips for a successful return to school

Take your time to get back into the rhythm of a normal routine

Don’t rush your normal routine. Take a few days or so to ease back into it. Remind your children that they will be able to see their friends once again, and will be able to tell them about their holiday adventures!

Readjust your child’s sleep schedule

Over the past few weeks, your child may have enjoyed sleeping in or staying up late. (We all love doing that during a break!) However, this might make it difficult to get back into a normal routine. To reset your child’s sleep schedule consider returning to the normal sleep schedule several days in advance, skipping late night meals, and opening blinds to get natural light in the mornings.

Pre-packing your child’s backpack and helping them choose their clothes

Help your child pack their backpack and lay out their clothing the night before the first day back from break. If your student takes their lunch to school, you may also want to pack that the night before. Grogginess in the morning can cause you to take more time than you need to do these simple tasks, so having a majority of it ready makes the first morning back as easy as possible.

Eat a healthy breakfast

Have your child start their first day back from break with a lean protein, high fiber breakfast. Foods like whole grain toast, eggs, yogurt, and cottage cheese can give them an emotional boost and keep them going throughout the day.

Have fun!

Make your child’s first day back from break fun. If packing a lunch for them, write them a sweet note telling them you are thinking of them. On your drive to school, encourage them to talk about what they are most excited about on their first day back!
