Back-to-School Stress? R.E.L.A.X.

Many students in the Omaha, Nebraska area are returning to their classrooms. And, while the sound of school brings excitement to many, it also can bring back-to-school stress.

Back-to-School Stress Omaha?

New routines, making new friends, and homework can all be contributing factors to stress in children, their parents, and teachers alike. So, how can you and your child R.E.L.A.X. this school year?

Rest

Children 4 years and older need approximately 9 to 11 hours of rest each night, especially during stressful times. Adults need approximately 7 to 9 hours each night. To get the best sleep, try to avoid caffeine and TV too close to bedtime. Quiet activities, such as reading, will help get the best nights rest.

Emphasize Strengths

Focus on each other’s strengths, rather than what could be, or what might be. Help one another out and encourage working together to reduce everyday stress.

Look For Healthy Stress Relievers

Look for healthy ways to reduce stress, such as going for a walk/jog, visiting the park, or hanging out with friends. In addition, listening to your favorite music, reading a good book, and finding a hobby are also good ways to reduce stress for kids and parents.

Axe the Stress by Getting Fresh Air

Did you know that by just getting outside to see nature, our happiness increases and our stress levels go down? Take a few minutes or hours each day to get outside and experience nature in the backyard or an Omaha park.
