This week was Legacy School’s Spring Break; however, next week students will not be coming back to school and returning to their normal schedule. Instead, students will be taught online via distance learning.
The Reason Behind Distance Learning
On Monday, March 16th, 2020, Nebraska’s Commissioner of Education, Matt Blomstedt, required that all schools across the state of Nebraska cease operations to help flatten the curve of the COVID-19 spread. At that time, Legacy School administrators, Buffy Baca and Kelly Pedersen decided to close school services until further notice and pursue distance learning for all classes.
What is Distance Learning?
So, what is distance learning? Distance learning is a method of study where teachers and students do not meet in a classroom but use the Internet, e-mail, mail, etc., to have class. With that said, distance learning will be implemented in a similar way, school-wide, at Legacy School.
How Legacy School Plans to Implement Distance Learning
All Legacy School teachers will return to school on Monday, March 23rd to begin developing a distance learning program for all students. During that time, teachers will work with Legacy’s administrators to create a distance learning program specialized for each classroom. Soon after, instruction will be delivered to parents and students via online programs, Zoom meetings, through e-mail, etc. Likewise to teaching in a Legacy School classroom, elementary teachers will provide differentiated instruction online. In the same manner, early childhood teachers will have a on-line program in the areas of Art, Literacy, Math, Music, etc.
