Importance of Low Student Teacher Ratio

At Legacy School, all of our classes have a low student-teacher ratio of 9:1. In every classroom each experienced, exceptional teacher has the support of a full-time teacher’s aide. Having this team of educators in every classroom allows for the flexibility necessary to educate the whole child, based on individual needs. Find out the benefits of low student to teacher ratios and why it is a core value at Legacy School.

The Importance of Low Student-Teacher Ratio

Instruction can be tailored individually

In a class of 30 students, teachers often have to teach to the middle of the class. Anyone below that level struggles to keep up on the lesson. Anyone above spends the class period daydreaming while the other students catch up. In a classroom that has low student to teacher ratios, teachers are able to tailor the lesson to each individual child on their level.

More one-on-one time

Students are able to receive individualized attention when teachers focus less on correcting behavior and more on their students strengths and weaknesses. With more one-on-one time, students have a greater sense that their teacher cares for them. When a student feels that a teacher cares for them and their work, they accomplish and achieve their greatest potential.

Cohesive class culture

In a small class, students are able to develop deep relationships with their peers. Instead of forming cliques, which often happens in large groups, students support each other in their learning. By working closely with each other, students learn to collaborate and communicate with each classmate.

Ability to cover more topics

Small class sizes gives students the ability to work diligently and expeditiously, while digging deep into topics. While diving deep into topics, teachers are also able to cover a vast variety of topics due to the students excitement to learn. In a small class, students are engaged, students are focused, and students are enthusiastic about their learning.
