June Update for Fall 2020

June Update for Fall 2020

Dear 2020-2021 Legacy School families,

We hope that you are all enjoying your summer so far. With summer underway and the 2020-2021 school year in near sight, we wanted to update you on tentative plans for the Fall.

First and foremost, as of right now, we plan to start the 2020-2021 school year on August 24th. With that said, we will do everything in our power to make this happen. However, please know that many factors are out of our control and that the current situation is very fluid. As we await 2020-2021 school directives from Nebraska’s Governor, Pete Ricketts, and the Nebraska Educational Commissioner, we want our families to know that as soon as we receive directed health measures, we will pass that information along to our families.

As we await guidance, we want our families to note a few things:

  • Virtual learning is not a preference for the 2020-2021 school year. We know that students thrive when learning is in-person. And we want families to know that we intend to have students in classrooms this upcoming year. With Legacy’s philosophy of teaching to each student through differentiated instruction, we value face-to-face instruction and plan to do everything we can to make this happen.
  • We currently have sanitation plans in place that are being implemented at Legacy School/Camp Legacy this summer. During the school year, we plan to continue these same protocols. We also do daily health checks each morning of all staff and students and will continue to do so until directed further.
  • Legacy School has prided itself on being proactive and not reactive to the current situation. We strive to be at the forefront of making decisions that best serve our staff, students, and families.
  • Please know we do have contingency plans in place for the 2020-2021 school year. We will disclose this information to parents if necessary, shortly after we receive directives from the governor and the Nebraska Educational Commissioner.

As we move forward together during these challenging times, we know how important it is to keep communication open in effort to relieve some stress and anxiety about the upcoming school year. Please know that as soon as we know more, we will communicate promptly with our Legacy School families about the 2020-2021 school year.

Outdoor Education

Legacy School sits on 11 acres of land, allowing for expressive, outdoor educational experiences for all students. Our outdoor learning and playing space allows for real world experiences that cannot be found anywhere else. We utilize our unique location, with 11 acres of land for outdoor education and outdoor play, thus giving students a chance to spend more time in an outdoor education setting. New to Legacy School is a barnyard that holds both chickens and goats and a farm to table garden.

Legacy Scholarship

We are proud to unveil our new Legacy School Scholarship Program. Students who attend Legacy from 1st-6th grade are eligible for a $500 scholarship towards higher learning. This scholarship can be used for college or trade school upon graduation from high school. With that said, we are very excited to give back to our students as we know each child has the potential to succeed at whatever goal they set for themselves. We can’t wait to help your student celebrate their high school accomplishments and for them to continue onto their higher education journey.
